Surajkund Crafts Fair 2020
The ' Surajkund Mela' or the Surajkund international crafts fair is an event that is organised every year by the Haryana tourism department at Faridabad, Haryana.
This was the 34th version of 'Surajkund Mela' which lasted for a fortnight starting from February 1st '2020 and wrapping up on February 16th'2020. More than a million visitors attend this annual fair and crafts festival where painters, weavers, sculptors and craftsmen from every nook and corner of the country and the world display their hand at extraordinary craftsmanship that can be made out from the intricate details on their pieces.
The ticket for this extravagant fair costs around Rs.120. However, if you are a student or a senior citizen you may as well enjoy a 50% discount, reducing the cost to Rs. 60. The fair boasted an impressive entrance with a colourful gate and top-notch security.
As you enter you may spot food stalls serving mouth-watering Indian delicacies like 'Panipuri' and ice popsicles traditionally pronounced as 'gola' . Keeping in mind the convenience and security of its visitors, the fair holds pharmacies catering to emergencies of any kind. The main attraction of the 'Suraj Kund crafts mela' is its variety boasting stalls where one can find numerous products like pots, ceramic utensils, lanterns, wind chimes, pashmina shawls, Punjabi jutti's and whatnot. The fact that this fair gives a boost to local businesses and provides a ground for 'Make in India' campaign remains undisputed.
It is a combination of vivid colours, eye-catching crafts, mindful surrounding with traditional folk music being played in the background and mouth-watering ethnic delicacies. The fair is spread over a good forty acres of area providing the visitors with an opportunity to walk after munching on delicious meals.
In and around the fair, various sculptures and architectures belonging to different Indian states were erected. Not to forget the performances showcasing the Indian folk culture as well as the culture of other countries like Nigeria, Tajikistan, Mongolia etc was a visual delight.
An entire section of the fair was reserved for the stalls of craftsmen and traders from foreign lands. The huge and elaborate gate at the entrance of this section is noteworthy and aesthetically pleasing. The fair also grants it's visitors, a plethora of stalls from countries like Uzbekistan, Turkmenistan, Russia, Thailand, Afghanistan, Iran, Nepal and Bhutan enabling them to make fancy purchases.
This place has proven itself to be a paradise for art lovers, students, foreigners wanting to explore India in a short span of time and of course shopaholics waiting to fill their bags with a variety of products.
